Manchester’s second station has oft been maligned over the years – perhaps because of its lack of amenities or the fact that it now adjoins the Manchester Arena, which means you might be caught up with thousands of pop fans on your commute home. But I have always loved this station, especially the exterior frontage, which was built in 1909 and has a sense of old fashioned grandeur that Piccadilly Station could never match.
