Salford Lads Club is of course most famous for the iconic shot of The Smiths outside of the building for the interior sleeve of The Queen is Dead. I wanted to feature the building though and whilst it will always have the most positive of associations with the band it is also a living and breathing building that still serves the young people of Salford just like it did then. This is why I constructed the image to emphasise the light inside that’s crackling to escape outside.
