Manchester is booming at the moment, with skyscraper after skyscraper being erected – but it retains many of it’s historic backstreets, that make them such a popular destination for Hollywood filmmakers who are forever plotting up on Dale Street and surrounding streets in order to conjure up old centuries old images of New York taking advantage of the cobbles, aged brickwork and fire escapes.  Mangle Street is one of the back alleys that best encapsulates this transportive magic, captured here at 5am.  Only a couple of elements betray that this is not an image from 1850.
